"Destiny: The Taken King" is now live and ready to be played. Day 1 sure was packed with positive reviews and also came with an update. The third expansion is considered to be the most anticipated, largest, and most expensive yet for "Destiny".
"The Taken King" expansion for "Destiny" has gone live with a minute update that takes around 100MB on Xbox One, according to VG 24/7. This patch will activate Oryx and everything else in the expansion, and repairs the issue wherein gamers had complained about not receiving their content for the collector's edition.
New and other features include: Oryx and his army from Phobos, a moon of Mars, will be arriving. This requires "The Taken King" and a minimum character level of 25. In general, max character level cap was now elevated to 40; while new Vanguard and Crucible bounties are now available at the local Bounty Tracker. Players should expect that Year One Moments of Triumph are now sealed and progress is disabled. Rewards for VIP Founders Fortune will be dispersed in the Tower; while the Spark of Light Level 25 Character Boost consumable can be availed at the Postmaster (both requires "The Taken King").
On the other hand, the new Crucible content appeared and was played last week as part of the free 2.0 update. But it will be switched off again, and "The Taken King" is required to avail of and resume playing with the Crucible, according to Metro. The content boasts of all 7 (8 for the PlayStation versions) maps; and the new enemy Dreadnaught ship will be the set where a lot of the story missions will also happen. Two new competitive modes are also added up: a Capture the Flag-like game called Rift and Mayhem - where the cool-down time will now be very brief for the player's special abilities.
Although it is not clear how many missions will there be exactly in "Destiny: The Taken King", the storyline seemed to be uncomplicated this time: the new villain Oryx sets out on a mission to wipe out the Guardians to avenge his son Crota's death - which happened in one of the previous expansions. He is also determined to destroy the entire solar system, thus, all of the factions are now required to get involved.
In its entirety and with all these huge changes in "The Taken King" expansion for "Destiny", it seemed that it still has some work to do to justify its extremely high price. And fans might have a good point that there's much value in purchasing the Legendary Edition than availing "The Taken King" on its own. But the fact also that throngs of players spend hundreds, even thousands, of hours to the game should not be undermined as well; and it's hard to put a price on any of this.
"Destiny: The Taken King" really seemed to have remarkably expanded the amount and variety of the game's content, but "Destiny"'s core was constructed around repetitive strikes, raids, missions, and other activities, according to Polygon. And once players can go around the expansion on a heartbeat, unforeseen exploits and other issues are bound to happen. The new raid in "The Taken King" expansion called the King's Fall was not shown by Bungie. Crota's End may have its merits, but it is not at par in terms of quality and longevity of the Vault Glass. But that's what makes "The Taken King" easily promising; and there's more to it on the surface, the review concluded.
With huge expansions for an equally colossal game such as "Destiny", high hopes and expectations may follow suit. But with "The Taken King" barely taking its balance on launch, players still have many more ways than one to uncover what's much-anticipated about the expansion. The "King's Fall" will also arrive on September 18.
