Victoria Beckham is under fire for using skinny models in her fashion show at New York Fashion Week. The singer turned fashion designer has been flooded with numerous criticisms after skinny models took to her catwalk, modelling her latest designs. With weight and body issues being such a big deal in today's society, many fans of the designer took to social networking sites to complain.
According to E Online, after using what most have described as "super skinny" models for her fashion show, Victoria Beckham is now in the hot seat as many fans thought the 41-year-old designer was portraying the wrong image of women in today's society.
After the former Spice Girl took to Instagram to post several updates from behind the scenes of her event, many of her followers posted negative comments stating how unhealthy and thin her models looked.
In a report from The Guardian, the issue of Victoria's skinny models continued on Twitter, where many expressed their opinions and disappointment in the designer for using the said type of girl. Most comments stated how Victoria's models could give the wrong impression to young girls and teens around the world.
With Victoria being powerful and famous, fans complained how she should have used 'fuller' models to help spread a positive view on people's bodies and their appearances. Others said that the mother of four should be ashamed of using such body frames as the models she used look uniformly painfully thin, suggesting that they had eating disorders.
In a report from International Business Times Australia, Lorna Garner, the chief operating officer of the eating disorder charity B-eat, gave her opinion on the issue saying, "We know that some young women suffering from eating disorders take these types of photos and put them inside their wardrobe doors, using them as a goal to work towards." According to her, these types of images do not cause eating disorders but help escalating and exacerbating the existing conditions. "There is overwhelming evidence that points to these images having a very negative and damaging effect."
With all the negativity that has come around due to the models Victoria Beckham used, the once much loved Posh Spice is now being questioned on why she took back what she previously claimed, which was she wouldn't use skinny models. Victoria has yet to comment on the issue; however the Beckham matriarch has always said she takes her role seriously, and is expected to answer back very soon.
