HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Playstation VR Roundup: Price, Specifications, Features included

By

Virtual reality is undeniably the next big thing in the coming months. A lot of virtual reality headsets are arriving early next year, including the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Sony's Playstation VR. Thus, a tight competition is expected on these three key players.

All three companies are vying for a piece of action with each of their virtual reality headsets. No wonder why the HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and Playstation VR are being compared to one another as early as now.

First, the HTC Vive is expected to be a little bit pricier than its two rivals. The HTC executives have stated that they aim a premium virtual reality experience, which then can be inferred that the Vive costs more. Its initial cost is allegedly less than $800, but might drop in price to compete with its rivals. There are no available specifications yet for the HTC Vive's finished model, however, the developer edition is listed with 1080 by 1200 pixels resolution per eye. It provides room tracking, has a frame rate of 90Hz, and hand-tracking courtesy of two motion wands with complement of buttons, track pads, and triggers.

Second, the Oculus Rift's consumer model is set to run at 1080 by 1200 resolution per eye. Atman Binstock, Oculus' chief architect, has revealed this in a blog post. This may also be subjected to change when it's already launched. Just like the HTC Vive, it also operates at 90Hz frame rate. If gamers prefer to play with more traditional inputs, Oculus Rift is said to be bundled with an Xbox One controller. It will be most likely to be priced at $400 to $500.

And finally, Sony's Playstation VR is expected to be compatible with the motion control elements built into the standard Dualshock 4 gamepad. It has 960 by 1080 per eye resolution which makes it less than both its competitor and uses a set of Playstation Move controller. The price could probably be $300 to $400.

With all the comparisons made, it is worth noting that these three could make a difference in the world of virtual gaming. Everyone needs to wait patiently for their official release dates sometime next year.
