Google has reportedly hired Amazon engineers for the rebirth of its glass-like wearable. Google Glass is now called the Project Aura, which brings innovative wearable technology in the world.
Ivy Ross, the original head of Google Glass, is said to remain in charge of the Project Aura. However, Ross will now report to Tony Fadell, the Chief Executive Officer of smart thermostat maker Nest, who volunteered and pushed an initiative to work on the second iteration of the Google Glass.
Project Aura is described as "Google Glass and Beyond." It is an attempt to turn the experimental Google Glass into something with a real commercial future. Originally, Google Glass was introduced in 2012. Unfortunately, for some reasons, it failed. Thus, it is quietly making a comeback today.
According to some reports, the newly hired software engineers, developers, and programmers were previous Amazon employees. Since Amazon has declared severe lay-offs and project cuts following the failure of the company's Fire smartphone, these three were called to be part of a new Google project.
The Project Aura team includes these three Amazon Lab126 employees, namely Amir Frenkel, Tina Chen, and Dima Svetlov, including Max Ratner from Apple. This team is expected to be a world-class team focused on the development of a cutting-edge hardware, software, and industrial design.
In addition, rumor has it that the company had been shipping out a new generation of the head-mounted device, especially to the customers in the manufacturing, energy, and health care industries. This device features a revamped rectangular body and button-and-hinge system to attach the mini-computer to other units.
In June, Project Aura has initially started. Google is determined to continue the reinforcement of its Google computer eyeglasses, which plans to speed up research and development in providing a similar wearable technology across the globe.
