Google App version 5.3 starts rolling out to enable Google Now on Tap and see how it actually functions. Unfortunately, this update will only work for those users running the Android M Developer Preview 3.
This week, Google has released Google App v5.3 update to bring full Marshmallow user interface aesthetic to the Google Now launcher. This application will only install on Android 4.4 and higher, but won't add On Tap functionality yet.
During the Google's I/O event a few months ago, Google Now on Tap was one of the big Marshmallow announcements. It is said that it will recognize what the user is doing at a particular time and come up with contextual information. This feature can be accessed by long pressing the home button at any time. Google will then scan the screen and generate data based on the links and texts. Moreover, it will debut with the release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow later this fall.
The Google App v5.3 has a number of bug fixes and turns the user's application drawer into a vertically scrolling futuristic oddity. One major change would be the YouTube Android application interface, in which the content appears as a series of large thumbnails that take up the full width of the screen. The user can tap on one clip to start playing without changing the page and continue scrolling through the list of available clips without affecting playback. In case the user prefers to play the video in the corner, there is also a new button to open it right there and then.
Earlier, Google Now on Tap has stopped functioning for the time being. Google has prevented users from accessing it. There might be some issues that need to be fixed, but it will definitely be available any time soon again.
