'Tomb Raider' Reboot Update: Warner Bros Eyes Three High-Profiled Directors To Helm Upcoming Movie

By

Warner Bros.' reboot of "Tomb Raider" is taking a few steps closer to the big screen as it has already attached some names of high-profile directors up for the helming job.

According to The Tracking Board, Tricia Brock ("Girls", "Orange Is The New Black") was originally offered the directing job but ultimately turned it down. Now, the producers of the film are looking at three potential directors namely, Kathryn Bigelow, Catherine Hardwicke and Mimi Leder.

The search for a director started shortly after Evan Daugherty finished the script. After which, a few names have come out as potential candidates.

Screen Rant reported that Hardwicke has since focused more on indie films and cable TV shows. Her last movie to date was the first "Twilight" installment. Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker", "Zero Dark Thirty"), on the other hand, has established a reputation as a specialist in drama/thriller and action/thriller. Meanwhile, Leder ("Pay It Forward", "Deep Impact") has yet to work on films as big as the two directors.

The upcoming "Tomb Raider" movie is believed to feature an obscurer and grittier tone similar to the rebooted video games. The previous take on the franchise, which was starred by Angelina Jolie, was noted to have a light approach. With the three directors' experience in both serious and gritty projects, the upcoming film may indeed going to be pretty much interesting.

As for the actress who will take the role of the main protagonist Lara Croft, Latino Post reported that there's yet to be a confirmation. The same goes with the supporting cast members as well as the official release date of the movie. But it is expected that there'll be more updates and details about the "Tomb Raider" movie reboot in the following months to come.

In the meantime, fans can only hope for the reboot of "Tomb Raider" to officially start production soon and that whoever among those three directors takes on the task of helming the film, will do a great job.
