CyanogenMod has finally released the stable CM 12.1 builds to HTC One M8 handsets. The new CM 12.1 is based on the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system.

The famous crowd-sourced custom ROM developer community, CyanogenMod, brings SDK v1 release, IMAP idle support, and bug fixes, including the Stagefright security software patch to its new CM 12.1 custom ROM.

Since the CM 12.1 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop custom ROM was created for the HTC One M8 devices, one must not attempt to install it on other Android handsets. Before installing the custom ROM to the HTC One M8 smartphone, the user must clear memory and back up all data stored first.

USB drivers are to be installed in advance; otherwise the handset won't be recognized. Additionally, an 80 percent battery life should be left prior to custom ROM installation. The device might get bricked when the battery dies during the installation process.

Download first the new CM 12.1 custom ROM and Google Apps, and then use a USB cable to connect the HTC One M8 to the computer. Copy the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop zip file in the handset's SD card memory and place boot.img file in the android-sdk-windowsplatform-tools directory.

After performing those steps, the user must turn off the handset and disconnect it from the computer. By press holding the volume down and power buttons simultaneously, one can enter the regular Bootloader mode. Then, go to android-sdk-windowsplatform-tools and open command Prompt and type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" on the computer.

Next, some instructions will be shown on the screen after typing in "fastboot reboot". By choosing the Bootloader option, the user will then enter Recover Mode. The next step is clearing the memory of the smartphone. In order to clear the cache memory, select "wipe cache partition."

Head to the ClockworkMod recovery, select "Advanced" and click "wipe dalvik cache", and go back to the main recovery screen to install zip from SD card. After that, tap "choose zip from sdcard" and install the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop custom ROM by clicking the .zip file from the SD card. Just repeat the procedure to install Google Apps. Once done, navigate to "Go Back" and restart the handset by selecting "reboot system now" in the recovery menu.

It will take a few minutes to complete the booting process. Then, head to the HTC One M8's settings to confirm the installation of CM 12.1 custom ROM.
