While LG's flagship devices G4, G3, and G2 have been expected to head straight to Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, its tablets have yet to receive Android Lollipop's first maintenance release. G Pad 7.0 LTE tablet is reported to receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop update.
Currently running on Android 5.0.2 Lollipop version, LG's G Pad 7.0 LTE is now bound to get Google's first maintenance release (MR) for Android Lollipop. Dubbed the most ambitious software update of Android in history, Android 5.1 Lollipop will bring in new features and improvements. This includes the device protection, smarter Wi-Fi, improved priority mode, changing the volume, an easier way to connect to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, easier way to change the alarm volume, new icons, and more animations, among others.
Device protection is an anti-theft feature. Whenever a device gets lost or stolen, it will remain unlocked until the owner signs in with his registered Google account or safe lock screen, like pin or pattern. Factory resetting the device would not unlock it.
Wi-Fi becomes smarter. Devices will be enabled to recall Wi-Fi connections that have limited or no Internet access and won't automatically reconnect to them in the future. This is conducive in malls, restaurants, hotels, and other establishments that have poor connections due to massive traffic.
Connecting to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth can now be done through the Quick Settings menu for easy access. Tapping the on and off toggles of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth will launch a new screen within the Quick Settings that lets a user connect easily.
Priority mode can now be set until next alarm. This is convenient when setting an alarm before hitting bed. Change Alarm's volume bar by going to Clock app and press the volume key. This is made more convenient than going to Settings > Sound & notification > Alarm.
On the other hand, changing the volume becomes easier. Unlike before, by just clicking the volume + and - will increase and decrease volumes while music is playing.
Meanwhile, new icons have been added like the volume adjustment icons. A new SIM card icon can be found in the status bar. Taking off the SIM card will display a no SIM icon.
Android 5.1 also brings more animations throughout the system. Tapping the top row of icons in the clock app and icons in the Quick Settings menu now move.
Current software status of LG G Pad 7.0 LTE unlocked versions and under mobile carriers are as follows:
