Android 5.1.1 Lollipop Update: Custom ROM Release for Samsung Galaxy S4

Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone gets the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop via a custom ROM released just earlier today. The Lollipop-based ROM will bring new features and improvements for the Galaxy S4 device, both under carriers and unlocked versions.

For those who cannot wait for the official over-the-air rollout of the final Lollipop update, a custom ROM based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop has been made available to Samsung Galaxy S4. Team Radium created the ROM through CyanogenMod.

The ROM developer brings new features exclusive to the ROM. These features are as follows:

New Settings menu
Wwakelock blocker
New animations
Status bar settings
Custom battery status style
Gesture anywhere
Enable or disable recent floating action button
Performance enhancements
Security patches

Before proceeding with the custom upgrade to Android 5.1.1 lollipop, here's a few tip to remember:

1. Make sure device is rooted.

2. Charge it up to at least 70%.

3. Make sure the model number is qualified. Otherwise, it will brick the device. Qualified Galaxy S4 unit has model number GT-I9505. Check it on Settings > About phone > Model number.

4. Proceeding with the download might void its warranty if it is under a mobile carrier.

To install the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop via CyanogenMod custom ROM, here's a quick guide:

1. Download Radium Android 5.1.1 Lollipop custom ROM and Google Apps.

2. Place downloaded files on PC using USB cable.

3. Copy downloaded files to device's microSD card.

4. Back up all stored data using the TWRP tool since the upgrade will wipe out all data.

5. Shut down device.

6. Disconnect from PC.

7. Boot into Recovery Mode by press holding the volume keys and home button simultaneously.

8. Tap "Wipe data/factory reset."

9. Tap "Wipe chache partition."

10. Go back to main recovery screen.
