Hugh Jackman hit the red carpet in the world premiere of his latest adventure film "Pan" with his wife Deborra-lee Furness. Jackman posed with Furness at Odeon Leicester Square on Sunday, September 20, in London, England. The couple was joined by his "Pan" co-stars Rooney Mara, Garrett Hedlund, Cara Delevingne, Levi Miller, as well as musician Lily Allen and actress Georgia May Jagger.
Hugh plays the notorious Blackbeard, the infamous pirate character in the classic and well-loved tale of Peter Pan in Neverland. The 46 year old actor described his experience of portraying the pirate as "just awesome." He said: "You are playing a pirate and you are in Neverland, I mean what's not to like? "
He also shared that the movie was like nothing he had really done before because increasingly, most movies that are being made become more and more green screen. They had a huge set with ships that moved and it was like Neverland.
The "Les Miserables" star had always been a Peter Pan fan and shared his joy in revisiting JM Barrie's 1911 novel before starting filming. According to Jackman, every adult should go back and read something like this children's classic because it is one great reminder of the child-like sense of wonder with the world.
In the Sidney Morning Herald, Jackman revealed that he expected differently from what his Blackbeard character turned out to be. She shared that Joe Wright, the English director behind "Atonement" and "Pride and Prejudice" made his face superimposed with white cracked make-up, he literally wears the wig of Marie Antoinette and the costume of Louis XIV, and his hands are covered with rings wears a dangly earring and other jewels.
He added, "Okay, this is a completely different picture of Blackbeard than I expected, but no one else is going to expect it either."
Penned by Jason Fuchs, "Pan" also stars another Australian, Levi Miller, who plays the 12-year-old orphan Peter. He became friends with, James Hook played by Garrett Hedlund and also meets the warrior Tiger Lily played by Rooney Mara. They all gang together to save Neverland from the hardnosed pirate Blackbeard and help young Peter complete his destiny to become the great Peter Pan. The film will debut in theaters on October 9.
