Moto G, G2 to Receive Both Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS; Latest Lollipop Update on September 29

Moto G versions 2013 and 2014 are set to receive both the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating systems. Motorola will roll out the Android Lollipop to the second and third generations of Moto G handsets by September 29. This means that the handsets will run with the last version of Lollipop prior to the official release of the Android Marshmallow.

Motorola has assured its users that most of its tablet and handset lines will receive the Google's latest operating system when it rolls out. The Android Marshmallow firmware is expected to debut in the coming days along with the launching of the new Nexus smartphones. As predicted, the Android Marshmallow could come to the Moto G smartphones in December 2015 through February of 2016.

The original Moto G handset was launched in 2013 and is said to be Motorola's biggest sleeper success and selling device of all time. In fact, it was once considered as one of the best-value Android experiences one can get on a smartphone.

The second Moto G generation, also referred to as Motorola Moto G2, was unveiled in September last year. It may not have been as successful as its predecessor, but sales-wise, it has evidently improved. Moto G2 features a larger screen and higher resolution, better camera, dual-sim, a microSD expansion, stereo front-facing speakers, and the inclusion of switchable back panels. Additionally, it was exceptionally affordable like the original Moto G.

Among those Motorola devices that are already confirmed to get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system are the Moto X Style (Moto X Pure Edition in the United States), Moto X Play, Moto X, and Motorola Droid Turbo (Moto Turbo in India).

The American tech company has yet to make a statement to either confirm or deny these reported roll outs. Nevertheless, these updates will give Motorola devices performance improvement and value-added features.
