Although the seventh installment has yet to hit cinemas, "Star Wars: Episode 8" has reportedly begun filming already. More so, one classic cast member is believed to return.
The Independent reported that "Star Wars: Episode 8" production has started filming, while prominent cast member Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker in the franchise, will most likely be part of the sequel to "The Force Awakens." It means that people will most likely see their most-beloved Jedi Knight in the said film.
Reports stated that a cast and crew of 100 people were spotted off the coast of Ireland, attempting to film on Skellig Michael. And ultimately, the filming was revealed to be for "Episode 8," not reshoots on "Episode 7."
According to The Irish Examiner, both Hamill and his son Nathan were spotted on set, as they once again made the trek to the location - a journey that is rumored to cost Hamill's life. The first day of filming, however, was reportedly delayed due to bad weather conditions.
Meanwhile, International Business Times reported that the 63-year-old actor has shaved his beard. It is unclear whether this will be the new look of his character in the movie, but it could be an indication that the actor may have finished filming his scenes and could be on an extended break until shooting resumes.
Considering the reports accumulated, this strongly suggests a possibility of Hamill's Luke Skywalker to be present in "Star Wars: Episode 8." It is worth noting that one of the rumored story elements is the missing Jedi and that much of the plot revolves around the character.
The underlying idea is that Skellig Michael plays an essential role as the film's location. It is in fact the island itself is home to a Christian monastery, which was established between the 6th and 8th centuries. It is an ideal location for a scene where Luke Skywalker could be at some sort of a temple.
Now that "Star Wars: Episode 8" has begun filming and that a classic cast member in the person of Mark Hamill will reportedly return, it is safe to say that fans of the entire Star Wars franchise are more or less excited about this upcoming film. It will be released in theaters on May 26, 2017.
