"Blade Runner 2" According To Cinematographer Roger Deakins Will Stand By Itself; Ridley Scott Revealed Why He Passed Up In Directing

By

Roger Deakins, master cinematographer of modern classics "The Shawshank Redemption," "Skyfall" and "No Country for Old Men," has confirmed that "Blade Runner 2" is certainly happening after almost 35 years. Deakins will be reuniting with director Denis Villeneuve after working together in the recently released "Sicario."

Deakins who divulged that he is a fan of the original film stated in an interview that "Blade Runner 2" will be a totally different movie from the Ridley Scott's science fiction classic "Blade Runner" and it will stand by itself.

Deakins said: 'I'm not going to do shafts of light coming through a window with rain just for the sake of doing shafts of light and rain - although it was really superb the way it was done. No, you have to think about the script and approach it anew."

In saying so, this tells the fans that "Blade Runner 2" is not going to be a direct sequel to the original film. Although Harrison Ford will most likely be returning to play his character Rick Deckard, the forthcoming film in the works does not immediately continue the plot threads of that first narrative.

Villeneuve stepped up to the plate when Scott passed up on directing the film due to complexity of juggling his projects. However, Scott will be producing the movie. It is written by "Blade Runner" original writer Hampton and Michael Green who wrote "Green Lantern."There was no mention just yet of how the plot will turn about but it will most likely take place in the same world as the original.

"Blade Runner" is a cyberpunk vision of the future where man learned to create replicants or artificial humans. Deckard is a part of the Police force that hunts down and terminates replicants. This film questions what it is to be human, and why life is so precious. "Blade Runner 2" is currently slated for a release in 2017.
