Sony is set to release its most innovative virtual reality headset next year. The new head-mounted virtual reality system's name has been changed from Project Morpheus to PlayStation VR.

As reports confirmed, Sony renamed its virtual reality headset to reflect its industry product as well as for name recall. The company stressed that the name recall will help players associate the new experience of virtual reality gaming to the familiar interface of the PlayStation 4.

PlayStation VR is considered as "the ultimate weapon" in gaming. It is expected to be a powerful weapon for game developers to create exciting and new experiences for consumers. As a modern virtual reality device, it will feature full positional tracking, which allows users to experience immersive 3D games in a full 360-degree environment.

According to Mayasu Ito, Sony's EVP and Division President of PS Product Business and VP of Software Design Division, "The name 'PlayStation VR' not only directly expresses an entirely new experience from PlayStation that allows players to feel as if they are physically inside the virtual world of a game, but it also reflects our hopes that we want our users to feel a sense of familiarity as they enjoy this amazing experience."

The PlayStation VR will be available in the first half of 2016. Sony promises ten confirmed game titles to provide virtual reality support, which will be priced similarly to a new console. Additionally, it is expected to be compatible with the motion control elements built into the standard Dualshock 4 gamepad. It features 960 by 1080 per eye resolution and uses a set of PlayStation Move controller. Its price could probably be $300 to $400.

Meanwhile, expectant users would have to save up for the upcoming PlayStation VR and the new 1TB PlayStation 4 console to enjoy Sony's best gaming experience. On the whole, Sony's virtual reality headset will definitely be a strong competitor to its rivals, such as the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
