'Wolverine 3' leading man Hugh Jackman is publicly pushing for a possible X-Men/Avengers crossover. He also confirmed that the upcoming installation will be his last and final run as the titular mutant and superhero. His arch-nemesis Victor Creed, otherwise known as Sabretooth, may also make a comeback for the third standalone film.
According to Movie Pilot, an extreme on-screen team-up between the X-Men and the Avengers would be a showdown of epic proportions. Jackman, who plays Logan a.k.a. Wolverine in the 20th Century Fox-Marvel Entertainment live-action collaboration, was reportedly enthusiastic about the whole idea.
He said, "I would love it. ... You're in a very complex world where big, big sums of money are being spent for different franchises and so getting them together is difficult. Two years ago I would have said you'd be a real optimist to think it would ever happen, but weirdly I just think it maybe could. I think there is a possibility that it will happen."
Plot details remain unclear for 'Wolverine 3' but Jackman teased Sabretooth's return during an appearance on The Daily Telegraph's Sydney Confidential Podcast, according to IGN. Marvel's fictional supervillain and long-time nemesis to Wolverine was first portrayed by Tyler Mane in the original 'X-Men' film then Liev Schreiber took over for 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine'. Sabretooth is a ruthless assassin and paid mercenary possessing superhuman abilities such as enhanced senses, superior healing and razor sharp fangs and claws.
Jackman admitted that he had been touched by fans asking him to stay on the franchise but he reiterated that the upcoming film would be his last appearance and it will be very exciting. He hinted that Wolverine may also lapse into his trademark "beserker rage", according to Wired.
Logan's "beserker rage" is best described as an uncontrollable animalistic mental state - a temper tantrum so overpowering that he ends up forgetting his morals and temporarily losing his humanity. The character undergoes this physical, mental and emotional change during instances of heightened stress.
'Wolverine 3' is an upcoming live-action adaptation of the Marvel character of the same name. It will be directed by James Mangold and written for the big-screen by Michael Green. It will serve as a sequel to 'The Wolverine' and will be the X-men mutant's third and final standalone film.
