'Gambit' will feature Bond girl Lea Seydoux as Bella Donna Boudreaux. She will be starring opposite Channing Tatum as his titular character's love interest. It is also confirmed that the film, together with 'Deadpool' and 'X-Men', all exist in a shared universe and possible crossovers may happen in the future.
According to Deadline, 'Spectre' actress Lea Seydoux will be joining the cast of the new 'X-Men' spin-off to star opposite Channing Tatum. Her character is rumored to be Bella Donna Boudreaux, a skilled assassin and hand-to-hand combatant associated with Gambit in the Marvel comic book series. It was revealed that Abbey Lee and Rebecca Ferguson had also been shortlisted to play the role, however, the latter dropped out to join another film 'The Girl on the Train'.
In another article by The Wrap, Seydoux is said to be currently in talks with studios and it may not take long before an official announcement is made. The French beauty is known for her previous works including Madeleine Swann in 'Spectre', Clotilde in 'The Grand Budapest Hotel', Belle in 'Beauty and the Beast', Sabine Moreau in 'Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol' and as the controversial yet award-winning Emma in 'Blue is the Warmest Color'. Her character for the 'Gambit' cinematic adaptation is the titular character's first love possessed with the ability to shoot blasts of plasma from her hands.
The upcoming film may be a spin-off of the popular 'X-Men' franchise but it seems it will offer more to waiting audiences around the globe. According to Movie Pilot, 'X-Men: Apocalypse' producer Simon Kinberg revealed that 'Gambit', 'Deadpool' and 'X-Men' all share the same universe and there is a possibility of crossovers occurring sometime in the future.
Kinberg said, "The idea is that we've sort of reset the timeline after Days Of Future Past in some ways, and if not erased... So the Gambit movie, the Deadpool movie, will exist in a world that acknowledges whatever happened in Days Of Future Past and moving forward." It seemed that 20th Century Fox may be planning a shared universe franchise of their own.
Kinberg reiterated that although the films may be related in a single cosmos or timeline, it doesn't mean that all the characters will be seen interacting with each other on one big screen. However, they do have to exist within the same rules in the end.
'Gambit' is an upcoming live-action adaptation of Marvel's iconic X-Men character. It is an action-adventure film scheduled to be released on October 7, 2016 under the direction of Rupert Wyatt. Channing Tatum will be playing the lead role of Remy LeBeau a.k.a. Gambit and will be producing the film as well.
