'X-Men: Apocalypse' behind-the-scenes photographs showcase Cairo as the prominent setting as revealed by director Bryan Singer. His newest image features Storm looking out over her hometown in Egypt.
According to Screen Rant, Singer teased another promotional photo on his Instagram account of a young Storm, portrayed by Alexandra Shipp, looking out over a wild landscape of desert, gloomy skies and pyramids. He captioned this "#Storm watches over #1983 #Cairo via the magic of real time #simulcan @alexandrashipppp".
The photo featured a contrasting look at the actual film set with a green screen versus the one seen on a monitor, which had already been digitally altered.
Storm is one of supervillain Apocalypse's four Horsemen as revealed at the panel in San Diego Comic Con last July. She is joined by Michael Fassbender's Magneto, Ben Hardy's Angel/Archangel and Olivia Munn's Psylocke. Shipp sports a short mohawk in 'X-Men Apocalypse' as she takes up the role of a brainwashed mutant who serves the dark side as one of personal guards of Apocalypse.
The latter is also known as En Sabah Nur and is portrayed by Oscar Isaac. Marvel took the titles Death, War, Famine, and Pestilence from the same Biblical horsemen and incorporated them into the franchise.
It seems that much of the scenes from the upcoming movie would take place in Egypt - specifically Cairo. In an article by Comicbook.com, Singer previously released other images from the film set that featured him in locales of rubble, tombs and Egyptian sculptures.
Some of the behind-the-scenes images also showcased green screen backgrounds for the use of Simulcam. According to Hitfix.com, the technology is fairly new and was invented for the filming of James Cameron's 'Avatar'. It works as a tool that combines live action and CGI simultaneously on shooting, providing the filmmakers a preview of the scene without having to wait for post-production to apply the effects.
'X-Men: Apocalypse' is the ninth installment in the 'X-Men' franchise and is intended as a sequel for 2014's 'X-Men: Days of Future Past'. It stars returning cast members including James McAvoy as Charles Xavier and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique as well as newcomers to play the roles of the younger versions of the X-Men. It is scheduled for release on May 27, 2016.
