Finally, the watchOS 2 has been launched. Just recently, the update was postponed due to a bug discovered. But the good news here is that it is now available to download for the Apple Watch.
watchOS 2, the first major update for the Apple Watch, can now be installed. It features new watch faces, like Live Photos, better performance, Time Travel view, Apple Pay rewards cards, improved third-party applications, and more Siri functionality. Additionally, it allows the user to make FaceTime audio calls, issues voice commands without the need for an iPhone close by, includes more WiFi support to run applications, and sports a Nightstand Mode to use it as a bedside clock.
The next-generation watch operating system brings a major revamp to the Apple Watch. Native applications alone are said to make the watch more useful. watchOS 2 can tap into the watch's sensors, so the accelerometer, Digital Crown, Taptic Engine, and heart rate sensors come into play.
In order to install the new watch operating system, the user must launch the watch application located on the home screen. Navigate from General to Software Update. Then, the application will display the 515MB update with some release notes. Begin the update by tapping "Download and Install."
Take note, the installation process will not continue if the Apple Watch is not within the range of an iPhone connected to WiFi and charger with at least 50 percent battery life. After downloading the Apple Watch update, the watch will restart and then begin the installation. Manually restarting the watch or removing the charger during the installation is prohibited.
After the installation has been completed, the watch will restart automatically. This is not a fast update, that is why it is advisable that the user must leave both the phone and watch alone during the entire process.
