The "NCIS" Season 12 finale saw Gibbs being shot by a kid belonging to an international terrorist organization called The Calling. Season 13 will premiere in a somewhat somber tone because of this. Meanwhile, something interesting will happen in Anthony DiNozzo's life that might break the dark mood of the series and the fans in general.
DiNozzo will take over Gibbs' job while he undergoes treatment and recovers. Christian Post reports that Gibbs will be a changed man after the shooting. There will be tension between the two throughout the season as Gibbs thinks DiNozzo took his job. He did not consider the fact that the other man had no choice and was even reluctant to take over NCIS.
Meanwhile, "NCIS" boss Gary Glasberg said in an interview that the series will continue to delve on the love life of Tony DiNozzo. He teases a surprise sometime in the season that diehard fans of the series will get crazy over.
The comment made fans fortify their hopes that this season will be the season their beloved Ziva David (Cote de Pablo) will return. Franchise Herald reports that "NCIS" fans have never stopped asking for her return since she left the series and for her and Tony to be together again.
Michael Weatherly, who portrays Tony DiNozzo, told TV Line "I have come to understand that there will be, later in the year, some guest stars that will melt the avid NCIS viewer's brain." Weatherly did not mention a name but it was enough for fans to speculate that he was referring to Cote de Pablo.
For her part, de Pablo has said, "I think the fact that they never killed the character off is very telling. Under the right circumstances, I think it could definitely be explored." She further admitted that her exit from the series was rather rushed and she would have liked a closure.
