Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini owners can now rejoice for the latest Lollipop update is now available in the United States. The Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system with a build date of September 1, 2015 is set to arrive to Galaxy S5 Mini devices in due time.
The model that will get the Lollipop update will be the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini SM-G800R4. If the users can no longer wait for the over-the-air (OTA) notification on their handset, then they can perform a manual installation. To check for the OTA updates, simply go to the Settings, and then click About Phone. After that go to System Update and hit Check Now.
Android 5.1.1 Lollipop firmware is expected to deliver all important security fixes to the device, while ensuring that the general system stability is enhanced. This update will not bring new applications or remarkable features to the handset.
In order to install Android's latest Lollipop version to the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini device, the user must connect the smartphone to the computer through a USB cable. Before connecting the device, Kies software must be downloaded first. Then, click in the phone image to the left of the screen.
After that, hit the "Firmware Upgrade" button. The user will be asked to save or do backup of the files stored in the smartphone to the computer. The installation process will then take off and the "Download Update" step will follow.
Once the installation process is done, the Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini will restart. The user must disconnect the smartphone and reconnect it to the computer to confirm if the device has been updated to the latest firmware.
Currently, the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop build is restricted to Verizon-based Galaxy S5 Mini handsets in the United States. The South Korean tech giant will definitely expand the roll-out process to other regions in due time. If the OTA update notification fails to turn up, do not panic as it will eventually be released in the coming days.
