Rose McGowan opens up about new music video 'RM486': Singer reveals socio-political, personal meaning behind new single

Singer Rose McGowan has decided to make a statement through her new music video "RM486". She recently explained the socio-political and personal story behind the newly released song and video.

McGowan's new single entitled "RM486" is in reference to the abortion pill called RU-486, according to Wired. This is reportedly her way of making a statement, agreeing to the said drug. The singer explains that the various personas in her music video represented the different stages of her life. From "Dark Beauty" representing the media perceived goth part of her life, to "Art" representing her rawest self. This is the singer's first music video and was directed by Jonas Åkerlund, the long-time collaborator of Madonna and Lady Gaga. French electro band Punishment on the other hand collaborated on the track.

In the video, the singer is seen peeling off layers of plaster from her body emerging into a naked alien at the start. She then goes on portraying five more other characters in the video. In an interview she had with Rolling Stone, she explained the message of her song and the video paired with it. According to her, the song she wrote is both socio-political and personal.

The characters she played in the video are all her favourites, with exception to the Hollywood one where she had her mouth taped. She was basically saying that when she was in the Hollywood show business, she pretty much couldn't make a statement of her own. "Imagine for 15 years, you go to work, and everything that comes out of your mouth is something someone wrote for you. It's very weird" was how McGowan explained it.

According to McGowan, she hated acting and that she had always hated it as reported by Breit Bart. She said that acting limited her potential in many ways and didn't feel like an artist at all.

McGowan definitely made a big statement with her new single and music video. The singer is hoping that this significance would encourage people to listen to her newly released single and future songs.
