BlackBerry's Alleged Android-Powered "Venice" Could be Officially Named as "Priv"

BlackBerry's rumored Android-powered smartphone has been called "Venice" in the previous days, but now it won't be anymore. The moniker will be replaced by its alleged official model name, BlackBerry Priv.

Rumor has it that BlackBerry is currently gearing up for an all-new and innovative smartphone. The company is hoping that this device will make more impact than its recent products, as it aims the best of both worlds by offering a combination of physical keyboard and an Android operating system.

Evan Blass, a notorious leaker of the hottest news in technology, announced on his personal Twitter account that the upcoming Android smartphone from BlackBerry will be released as BlackBerry Priv, most probably because of its privacy features. Along with the surprise announcement, he also revealed a new stock photo of the smartphone.

BlackBerry Priv will be the company's first-ever smartphone that runs an Android operating system. It is expected to be powered by 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor with 3GB of RAM. Moreover, it includes Chromecast support, a 5.4-inch Quad HD curved glass screen, as well as an 18-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization and dual LED flash alongside a textured pattern on the rear panel.

Furthermore, the upcoming BlackBerry smartphone is expected to run a stock version of Android with BlackBerry Hub, BlackBerry Universal Search, and tap-to-wake. Its keyboard seems to be touch-sensitive, which acts like a trackpad so that there is no need to reach up to the screen to swipe when typing. As previously reported by VCPost, it will most likely to have sim card and microSD card slots at the top, speaker grille along the bottom edge, and power and volume rocker keys on the right side.

The Canadian telecommunications and equipment company has not yet confirmed anything about all the speculations circulating around the Internet these days. It has been very tight-lipped about the matter. However, it seems that the release date of BlackBerry Priv is coming very soon.
