Captain America Chris Evans and The Joker Jared Leto are being eyed by "The Girl on the Train" producers to be on the film. The two talented actors are reportedly in talks with DreamWorks with its film adaptation of Paula Hawkins' 2015 bestseller of the same title.
The dialogues are still ongoing and schedules as well as finances are still being arranged. If the discussions are settled, Evans and Leto will be joining Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson and Haley Bennett who are already set to play the three female lead characters.
The book debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times Fiction Bestsellers list earlier this year and was frequently touted as the next "Gone Girl." The suspense thriller will be following a newly divorced and alcoholic Rachel Watson played by Blunt. In her lowest life, she started fantasizing about an almost perfect couple and their visually ideal home that she passes by in her daily train commute. She has one day seen something appalling and that started her life to entwine with a mystery she never thought would ever happened.
According to Hawkins, the story of "The Girl on the Train" was enthused by her own commute in London when she herself enjoyed looking into people's houses from the train. "I started idly daydreaming about what I would do if I saw something shocking or surprising," she said.
DreamWorks has taken the rights to produce "The Girl on the Train" movie in 2014. Erin Cressida Wilson has then begun the adaptation even before the novel was published in January by Riverhead Books. It was the #1 book on the New York Times bestseller list for 19 weeks following its release and sold over 2 million copies worldwide.
Blunt stated that she wants to make the role of Rachel her own. She said that together with Tate, they decided to play the character British even if the setting was moved to New York.
The film will be directed by Tate Taylor. Marc Platt will produce, alongside Jared LeBoff of Marc Platt Productions as executive producer.
