Viola Davis recently appeared on "Ellen" bringing home the Best Actress Award to talk about sleeping with the Emmys trophy and making history. And looks like the actress relied on a little liquor before her acceptance speech and Ellen DeGenes joked that she thought she was drunk at that moment.

According to Entertainment Weekly, as the Emmy- awarded actress appeared on "Ellen" on Thursday, Davis joked that can't hardly be able to be apart with the award. "I slept with it last night," she giggled. She added, "My husband was like, 'Viola...' "

When the "How to Get Away With Murder" actress became the first African-American to win an Emmy as best lead actress in a drama, she began her acceptance speech by saying, "In my mind, I see a line. And over that line, I see green fields and lovely flowers and beautiful white women with their arms stretched out to me, over that line. But I can't seem to get there no how. I can't seem to get over that line."

But then her husband didn't really seem to know where her speech is going. And her husband really thought she just lost her mind when she started off her speech that with that line. Tennon Davis, her husband was relieved when the actress told him that it was a quote from 19th-century antislavery activist Harriet Tubman.

However, Time claimed that the host of the show, Ellen DeGeneres complimented Davis, stating that her speech was "perfect". When the comedic host asked if there was any preparation for the history-making speech, Davis confessed that "sort of," continuing, "I did want to mark the fact that it was the first African American to win in the Lead Actress category. I love that Harriet Tubman quote; I thought it was so progressive."

But then, DeGeneres cracked that she really thought at first that the Best Actress awardee was drunk. The host claimed, "At first I thought you were drunk, maybe." Davis, then, admitted that she drank a bit of prosecco while getting ready for the ceremony. She slunk a shot of the liquor as her 5-year-old daughter was trying on her Neil Lane jewelry and assuring her it didn't matter if she won, as reported by She Wired.

Not only did she tell Ellen that she drank a bit before the show, but she revealed that her husband was actually shocked by her speech and that he had no idea that she was going to say any of that

DeGeneres was a little bit shocked by Viola Davis' revelation that the actress drank a bit before the event. She was stunned by how everybody reacted on her history- making speech. The star also told the host that she was even clueless that she received a standing ovation from the audience because she was distracted by a certain fast food that was just off stage.
