‘Men in Black’ Reboot: Possible Trilogy In The Making; A Remake Without Will Smith?

By

A "Men in Black" reboot is in the works according to producers Walter Parkes and Laurie Macdonald. However, Will Smith will not be in it with not just one but all three remakes as a trilogy is already planned out.

SCREEN RANT notes the first "Men in Black" movie in 1997 with Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones as iconic markers for the film. It became quite a success that producers ended up making it a trilogy. With its huge achievement in the past, it was only a matter of time until another "Men in Black" reboot would come up.

The film was inspired by Lowell Cunningham's book series of the same title. The first film actually raked in $1.6 billion globally and $620 million in the United States alone.

DIGITAL TRENDS shares that producers Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald confirms the "Men in Black" reboot. Macdonald and Parkes are also the producers of the successful MIB trilogy in the past. During an interview Parkes confirmed that they are in the middle of making the reboot and is "very active" at present. Macdonald adds that "It will be reinvented as a trilogy." What somehow comes as a shocker is that Will Smith will not be in all three of them.

Parkes actually responds to the question if Will Smith will be in the next reboots which he answers "Most likely no." It is good to take note that Smith was asked if he was interested in more MIB films back in 2013, of which he openly responded "three is enough for me."

Sony seems not to be in a fix about not having Will Smith for the "Men in Black" reboot. Things seem to be all planned out with the statement made by director Phil Lord and Chris Miller according to MTV news. They say that there is a possible crossover for the agents in black franchise and that of "21 Jump Street." Lord was noted saying "We're really focussing on what's a great story for Schmidt and Jenko and how to tell the next chapter in their lives, and perhaps use creatures from another world at the same time."

Fans will have to wait and see how the latest trilogy by Sony will turn out without Will Smith. But it's also worth noting that there's also a new generation of younger moviegoers born after the MIB movie. So there is a possibility that the new star for the reboot will be welcomed with open arms.

Sony and producers Walter Parkes with Laurie MacDonald will hopefully make a successful trilogy of the "Men in Black" reboot, without Will Smith of course. Fans will have to wait and see until the first film hits theaters to find out.
