Showtime’s "Masters of Sex" offered its audience a complicated run on its third year, exploring more deeply on the characters’ romantic entanglements and even more complex family dilemmas. Writers of the period drama still have a few months to begin production, certainly giving them more time to rethink BIll's course of actions and Virginia's true feelings with Dan Logan.
The relationship of Bill and Virginia has always been the driving force of Sex’s story, but season three altered their dynamic by introducing a new character to come in between their growing, yet sometimes intricate bond.
Variety checked off this sudden turn in plot in the finale, citing how Josh Charles’ Logan played a pivotal role in season 3’s storyline -- “The other sequence, again capturing the dynamic of the main triangle, came as Virginia sought to run off with Charles’ Dan. As she looked over her shoulder while the two prepared to board a plane, he finally asked, “Are you afraid he’s coming, or are you afraid he’s not?” the publication wrote.
Another arc that’s on tap to be delved into next summer is Bill’s course of action after losing both Libby and Virginia. The series has always been transparent about Dr. Masters’ cold and puzzling attitude, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if he doesn’t take due actions for his past mistakes when season four picks up.
However, fans may also consider Bill taking major steps to fix his relationship with Virginia, since it’s public knowledge that they wed each other decades ago. Carter Matt says this theory can most likely happen in a report, “Given that the two were married in real life, we have to think that the show is going to be moving in that direction at some point in the reasonably near future.”
Should the show allow this to unfold, then it will be safe to assume that Ginny won’t make any effort to make it work with Dan Logan. This will, in theory, culminate into a platform where we see Bill transform into a much more ideal character.
To give viewers an idea, Showtime has released a brief promo for the new season through Youtube on Sunday. Although it doesn’t contain any spoilery-element, it does allude that season four will largely focus on Bill, Virginia, Logan, and Libby’s unfinished arcs.
"Masters of Sex" season 4 will continue unearthing the intricate relationship of Bill and Virginia. By the way things left off between the duo, it’s palpable they have a lot to fix personally and professionally when the Showtime drama returns in 2016.
