"Birdman" actress Emma Stone and Academy award winner Kate Winslet is reportedly in talks to join Olivia Colman in Yorgos Lanthimos' new movie, "The Favourite." The two equally talented actresses will star alongside Colman to complete the three lead female roles of the forthcoming film.
"The Favourite" is set in the timeline between the end of the 17th century and first years of the 18th century. It follows the events during the reign of Queen Anne, the last monarch of the House of Stuarts, from 1702 to 1707. The film discovers the waxing and waning of influence in Anne's circle of confidantes. Colman will portray the role of the Queen, Winslet will play her close friend Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough, and Stone will take the role of Abigail Masham. Marsham is a distant relative of Churchill who came from a humble background. She eventually usurped Churchill in Anne's affections. Masham and Queen Anne are also whispered to have had an affair.
Stone who has earned Oscar and Golden Globe nominations this year for her supporting role in Best Picture Oscar winner 'Birdman' is currently filming her latest movie "La La Land" in Pasadena California. Seasoned actress Kate Winslet whom movie fans fell in love with the major successful "Titanic" has recently starred in a comedy drama, "The Dressmaker" which is set in Australia.
A Greek director based in London, Lanthimos has built himself as one of Europe's most in-demand directors. Lanthimos is unafraid of offbeat subjects. Previously, he helmed the critically acclaimed 'The Lobster' scooping the Jury Prize at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. The film is set in a bizarre hotel where single people are taken to be partnered - or else will be turned into animals.
This is Lanthimos' second collaboration with Element Pictures who will produce alongside Scarlet films. The screenplay is penned by Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara and will start filming in Spring 2016.
