Google has quietly rolled out an update for its iOS Maps application. Finally, Google Maps has found its way from iPhone to Apple Watch.
As Google announced a number of new updates and products today at its press event, a notable application has arrived on the iOS platform. The Google Maps now works on Apple Watch. The Maps application includes driving, walking, biking, as well as transit directions which require the user to scroll or swipe down the list of turn-by-turn events, instead of moving through each turn as it comes up like Apple does.
The new Apple Watch application offers a simpler version of Google Maps compared to the one available on smartphones, since it is designed to work more as a companion application. The user can tap buttons fast to get routes to saved locations, like Home or Work. Additionally, when one pulls up directions on an iPhone, these are instantly synced to the Apple Watch, so they are accessible when the application is launched on the smartwatch.
Google Maps for the Apple Watch does not include an actual, full-color map. Rather, a blue directional arrow shows the user which way to turn while offering guidance, such as the distance to the next turn in English.
Meanwhile, the Apple Watch lets everyone do things normally, more conveniently and easily every day. Its designs reflect wide range of styles, which the user can make it even more personal to fit an occasion or mood by changing watch faces or switching bands. With the Apple Watch, all essential features and information are just a raise of the wrist away.
Nonetheless, the launch of Google Maps for Apple Watch indicates that the search engine giant is now taking Apple's platform more seriously. It could mean that more Google applications can work on the Apple Watch in the future.
