Alex Kurtzman will direct the latest "The Mummy" reboot, set to be released on March 24, 2017. He shared his thoughts about taking over the sequel and even adds that he will be introducing new monsters in the movie.
Movie News Guide shared that Alex Kurtzman will be in-charge of the latest "The Mummy" reboot which is set to hit theaters in the first quarter of 2017. Kurztman was co-writer for films such as "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" and "Star Trek: Into Darkness." He only has a single feature film in his belt, the 2012 film "People Like Us." However, that does not dissuade him from taking charge of the film that has thrilled a lot of fans a few years ago.
ComicBookMovie.com gave more of Alex Kurtzman's thoughts in "The Mummy" reboot in a recent interview with Slash Film. He was asked about his readiness in taking charge of films that he sometimes writes. He says "I've had the good fortune of being able to write and produce a lot of them now. I've spent time with directors who've been very gracious with me about really allowing me to sit by their side." He adds that by watching amazing directors do their "thing", he was able to learn a lot. He also acknowledges the fact that one can never really stop learning which made him feel that he is ready for directing. By partnering with Chris Morgan, he can't ask for anything else. Alex specifically noted Morgan's knowledge and experience in huge franchises and movies.
ComicBook.com adds that Alex Kurtzman's confidence in directing "The Mummy" reboot stems partly on Universal's "incredible" support on their whole monster endeavor. Saying that with "amazing" people around him helping him launch the film, he feels he is ready to go. Kurtzman also adds that fans and moviegoers will "very well might" see another monster in the film. About the possibility of connecting the film to "Dracula", he says that is "an ongoing conversation." The plot is said to transpire in modern times which will differentiate it from its predecessors. He gives an assurance though that a character wrapped in bandages will definitely be in the film, otherwise it wouldn't be a mummy movie.
With this plot in mind and Alex Kurtzman being partnered with Chris Morgan at the helm, "The Mummy" reboot is sure to have a different kind of feel for fans and moviegoers alike. They will have to wait until March 24, 2017 though to experience it.
