'The Entity' is a planned remake of the popular horror film from director Sidney J. Furie. It will be produced by James Wan although he may not direct since he is currently working on other projects. He is set to team up once more with brothers Chad and Carey Hayes who wrote the screenplay to his film, 'The Conjuring'.
According to Den of Geek, the upcoming horror reboot is an addition to the ever growing roster of classic films that are currently in the works. These include scary pop culture hits such as 'Cabin Fever', 'The Craft', 'Creature from the Black Lagoon', 'The Birds', 'The Blob', 'Don't Look Now', and even 'Hellraiser'.
The original film directed by Furie was released in United States territories in February of 1983. It followed the real-life events of a vicious haunting chronicled in the novel by Frank De Felitta. Actress Barbara Hershey portrayed Carla Moran, a woman continually tormented by a ghostly rapist who sought the aid of a psychiatrist.
It was reported by Movies Online that director Hideo Nakata of 'The Ring', 'Dark Water', and 'Death Note: L, Change The World' fame was speculated to helm the remake. This news, however, remains unofficial as of the present.
Another article by the Moviepilot suggested that although the film is yet to find itself a director, horror master James Wan is all set to produce the upcoming reboot. He will reunite with writers Chad and Carey Hayes who he worked with on the mainstream scream-fest 'The Conjuring'. It was said that although Wan may be the perfect filmmaker to take charge of the project, his hands are tied and will not be able to get involved as director.
The 38-year old Australian writer-director-producer is well-known for his work on several successful projects including 'Saw', 'The Conjuring', 'Insidious' and 'Furious 7'. He is currently working on a sequel for 'The Conjuring' entitled 'The Enfield Poltergeist'. He will be directing 2018's 'Aquaman' starring Jason Momoa in the title role.
'The Entity' is an upcoming horror-thriller film intended to be a reboot of the 1983 classic directed by Sidney J. Furie. The original film was considered one of the scariest films of all time and was received positively by critics and audiences alike. It won Barbara Hershey the Avoriaz Fantastic Film Festival Award for Best Actress and was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Music.
