‘Goonies 2’: Sean Astin Posted Misleading Tweet; Firmly Believes It Is Bound To Happen

By

Sean Astin posted a misleading tweet about "Goonies 2" that has sent the fans and the movie world a bit confused. After taking down the tweet, he still says that he firmly believes that the making of the sequel is not a question of "if" but a question of "when."

Screen Rant shares that "Goonies" is a family adventure film released in the mid-80's directed by Richard Donner and penned by Chris Columbus. Sean Astin was one of the actors of the film and he played as Michael "Mikey" Walsh. He firmly believes the film has created a lasting impact on American culture and is looking forward to see "Goonies 2" hit the silver screen. And with that, he resorted to social media to let his sentiments be known. He tweeted "#Goonies2 I shall return." But after word came out that he might not be in the sequel if it were to happen, he eventually deleted the tweet. He then "apologized" for his mistake and followed it up with a rather lengthy comment on his official Facebook page. Initially, he said that he always believed that a sequel will happen because he was told by Steven Spielberg in 1988 that he desired to make one.

USA Today adds more about Sean Astin's thoughts on "Goonies 2." He is quoted saying "I have said and will always say, that it's not a question of if, but rather of when the sequel gets made." He says that he has no idea about the plot, if he would be in it or if producers would want the original cast in it. He continues on by saying that the film is bigger than Spielberg - even Richard Donner, that it is "a part of American cultural lore" and there is a lot to gain from promoting the film, referring to the studio.

Sean Astin continues to say that unlike other films, "Goonies" is one of those movies that needs to have a "Goonies 2", according to JoBlo. Astin continues on by saying that people want to see a sequel come to life. As a matter of fact, Sean Astin and Corey Feldman actually wrote a sequel about it. "We had good fun working on that together and pitched it, and we were respectfully dismissed" he says. Feldman was also one of the co-stars in the film together with Astin.

Hopefully, "Goonies 2" will eventually become a reality to the extreme delight of Sean Astin and other Goonies fans. Astin's "misleading" tweet and overflowing enthusiasm may have already created a void in the hearts of fans and moviegoers that would want to see the sequel.
