'Mad Max: The Wasteland' is a planned sequel to the 2015 reboot by George Miller. It was reported that Tom Hardy, who plays the titular role, had signed on for three more sequels in the franchise. His co-star Charlize Theron, on the other hand, has not heard of the planned follow-up.
It was reported by Moviepilot that director George Miller teased more films to follow after his successful reboot/sequel 'Mad Max: Fury Road'. He said, "Thanks for the kind words you've written and said about the film. We had a lot of fun making it... and there's more Mad Max to come." It remains unclear whether Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, who play Max Rockatansky and Imperator Furiosa respectively, will reprise their roles in the proposed fifth installment in the Mad Max franchise.
According to IGN, Hardy revealed that he was still signed on for three more sequels in the future. He plays the title protagonist as a replacement for Mel Gibson who portrayed the mercenary and survivalist in the first three films. It was also speculated that Theron may reunite with Hardy to suit up as Max's strong female ally.
Theron, however, seems to have been left in the dark regarding the possible return of her character. According to USA Today, the South African beauty disclosed that she had not heard of 'Mad Max: The Wasteland' until it was brought up in the interview. The article noted that Furiosa's fate in the franchise remains unknown.
She did recount some of her experiences working with Miller and his project. She said, "I said this about George Miller: Everything about 'Fury Road' should have led me to believe that I was going to be in a push-up bra and a corset while Nick [Nicholas Hoult] and Tom [Hardy] got to do all the manly stuff... That's how it normally tends to turn out. You cannot be on a movie set and worry about where a camera is ... (but) I've definitely had experiences when I've been let down."
The 40-year old actress-model and producer is currently filming 'The Huntsman' with Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain and Chris Hemsworth. She also stars in the upcoming drama film directed by Sean Penn entitled, 'The Last Face'.
'Mad Max: The Wasteland' is a planned follow-up to 2015's addition in the Mad Max franchise. It remains unknown whether Miller will return to helm the sequel. The previous film proved to be successful among critics and earned $374 million in the box office, according to Box Office Mojo.
