Originally anticipated as the MX5 Pro, Meizu launched the Pro 5 instead last week. It comes equipped with the Exynos 7420 SoC, the same chip from Samsung Galaxy S6.
Fans were surprised to see the new phone instead of the Meizu MX5 Pro. Several photos and specs were already leaked. The new Meizu Pro 5 matched the same rumored specs of the earlier phone model name. As expected, it has the octa-core Samsung Exynos 7420 SoC coupled with 3GB of RAM for the 32GB model and a whopping 4GB of RAM for the 64 GB model.
For the display screen, the company installed a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution same as the rumored Meizu MX5 Pro. The pixel density is also quite decent at 387 ppi, according to NDTV. The figure is quite decent compared to other mid-end to high-end phones.
The Meizu Pro 5 also has an amazing camera. Featured is a 21.16-megapixel snapper with the Sony IMX 230 CMOS sensor. Besides the high megapixel count, the camera can also record 4K videos with ease.
All of the specs correspond with the rumored Meizu MX5 Pro specs. The previously rumored phone was expected to also have the Samsung Exynos 7420 chip coupled with 4GB RAM, according to International Business Times. However, there is a slight chance that there could be another variant as MediaTek's Helio X20 chipset was also rumored to power the device.
Connectivity isn't a problem with the Meizu Pro 5. It supports 4G LTE for faster download and upload speeds. One disappointing feature is that it runs the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS with Meizu's own Flyme UI version.
The Samsung Exynos 7420 chip also performed well in tests. Running the AnTuTu test, Android Headlines reported that the phone scored about 76,000 with a peak temperature of 39.5 degrees. Not bad for a phone running the same chip as the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+.
Pricing for MX5 Pro is expected at around $644, but there is no guarantee if it will be launched in the U.S. The rumored price of the phone was about $500.
