With the primary aim to solve the Stagefright vulnerability, Sony Mobile is now on the verge of releasing the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update. As reconfirmed yesterday, the update will come anytime this month via official over-the-air (OTA) update.

Xperia Blog already leaked last week that Sony is on the verge of releasing the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update with build number is 23.4.A.1.232. The new firmware was revealed through a certification released by the PTCRB along with its kinds.

The certification from the PTCRB was dated September 25, 2015. The last firmware 23.4.A.1.200 brought the notorious Stagefright threat and this new build is slated to zero in on the complete removal of the vulnerability.

Sony has just been in a string of Android 5.1.1 Lollipop releases to various devices, including older and mid-range ones. These include the following devices:

1. Xperia Z3

2. Xperia Z2

3. Xperia M2

4. Xperia M2 Aqua

5. Xperia Z1

6. Xperia Z1 Compact

7. Xperia Z Ultra

8. Xperia C3

9. Xperia T2 Ultra

For those who cannot wait for the official OTA release, a manual download of the firmware can be done through Flashtool released by Sony. Meanwhile, custom ROMs have been made available for these devices particularly from well-known developer XDA.

Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will bring in new features and improvements for Xperia Z3 and Z2 variants. These include the new LinkedIn app integration to Calendar and Contacts apps, direct access of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth via menu, more Xperia themes to choose from, bug fixes and several other improvements. Here's a quick rundown to new Lollipop's features:

• Camera focus, speed and accuracy improvements in Superior Auto mode
• New Settings menu icons
• Now take pictures from the camera using Sony SmartWatch 3; use the SW3 as a remote shutter button
• Many new features for Xperia in Business, enhancing enterprise support for Xperia
• Calendar agenda in Email - no need to switch apps to check upcoming events
• Instant calendar events - create & share smart events directly from any email
• Improvements to volume and silent mode control, more control of your alerts, simplified and enhanced design

The update is also expected to come to other brands as well including Samsung, LG, Huawei, Motorola and HTC.
