Nexus 5X and 6P: Newly Launched Lineup Lacks Wireless Charging, Google Explains Why

By

Google was one of the first to incorporate wireless charging to their Nexus line up. And as the biggest search engine company has unveiled two of their newest flagships, many are wondering why its newest Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P lack that feature.

The NDTV Gadget recently reported that Google Nexus Team held a Reddit Ask MeAnything (AMA) session after the launch of the new Nexus 5X and 6P. The team was composed of Hiroshi Lockheimer, David Burke, Krishna Kumar, and Sandeep Waraich. They have answered questions related to the new Nexus handsets, which includes questions about the new fingerprint security, the missing wireless charging feature, and the Nexus 6P camera bump. The team also discussed about how the group worked on the design of the devices and how they felt when they came across a lot leaks and rumors.

The team explained that they have decided to cut Qi Wireless charging support in the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P because the handsets has now USB Type-C, which is more easy to use due to being reversible. They further added, both phones are armored with fast charging technology in any case.

AndroidPIT added that in recent technology history, wireless connectivity has been a major goal. This technology might be gone for this set of Nexus phones, but it will be back definitely.

On the other hand, Android Community detailed other semi-important issue deals with 6P's weakness. One of which was the video stabilization, Google confirms that it will be fixing in a later update. Other than this issue, Google also confirmed that the rear camera sensors of both phones are similar. Both of these handsets have specific issue of lower CPU/GPU on the 5X so that it can only give 120fps slo-mo.

This is said to be the reason behind why Google doesn't include wireless charging to their newest Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. For the mean time, users of these two new flagships will have to wait for the update that would fix other semi-important problems that they've encounter.
