Project Morpheus is PlayStation VR; 5.7-inch device out by mid-2016 with improved refresh rate, powerful specs

The president of of Sony Computer Entertainment Japan and Asia, Atsushi Morita recently announced the new name of the formerly known Project Morpheus as PlayStation VR now that is about to change how a user play games.

According to Wccftech, The beginning of Virtual Reality is closer than ever, since the Oculus Rift, the HTC Vive and PlayStation VR are all situated set to be unveiled in the next few months.

On the other hand, the Playstation VR was reported in a league of its own and not really in rivalry with the other companies of VR hardware . Massive install base to start, single target for developer and firm consumer experience.

As for the Playstation VR specifications, it is said that the 2015 Project Morpheus model retains its forerunner's Full HD 1920 x 1080 display. But it is made bigger from 5-inches to 5.7-inches which can offer users a 100-degree field of vision. It has an RGB subpixels that help smoothen out the image, Wareable wrote.

One of its significant updates was stated its refresh rate, that works at a 120Hz instead of 60Hz, this is noticeably higher than both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive's 90Hz. However, early games will not be able to natively run at 120 FPS. As a replacement, the PlayStation4's reprojection software will put an additional "tween" every frame to make it feel like they are. Nevertheless, a silky-smooth feeling should be presented for the overall experience.

The Sony PlayStation VR will get together to the Sony PlayStation 4. Since the PS4 is just at the very start of its life cycle, thus, this is considered flexible, and its AMD graphics processor was made to handle stereoscopic 3D processing.

Moreover, a secondary box that attaches to the PS4 via USB and HDMI in order to manage the specifics of the headset's operation was created by Sony. A nice feature of the box is its inclusion of the HDMI-out, so a user can connect a screen and observe what it is experiencing without any distortion.

In a separate report from Polygon, Morita announced a collection of games and demos that will be allowed to play on PlayStation VR. It includes the Final Fantasy 14 Online, Summer Lesson, Kitchen, Dynasty Warriors 7 VR demo, Rigs, Joysound VR, and Hatsune Miku VR Tech demo.

Earlier this year, Sony has announced that the formerly known Project Morpheus which is the Playstation VR today will be coming sometime during the first half of 2016.
