'The Cabin In The Woods 2' Update: Film on Lionsgate's priority list; Sequel to include undead kabuki bloodlust?

By

Despite some reported hurdles, the sequel to "The Cabin In the Woods" is on the priority list for Lionsgate Film Studio. Now, rumors have been circulating about the potential plot for the follow-up movie which is said to showcase some undead kabuki bloodlust.

Speaking to Den of Geek, Goddard revealed that Lionsgate is taking things seriously and that the sequel is part of their priority list. The director said that "the studio wants to do it" and that "they've come to us" to discuss the possibilities.

Goddard went on to say that "I don't think we planned that movie to do a sequel" and that the fun thing about it is that "the rules are pretty crazy." However, he believes that he and Whedon "feel like we don't want to tarnish what we did with the first one" and the possibility of doing it will only happen if "it made us laugh hard enough."

With what Goddard said, it's safe to say that the sequel is very much likely to happen - let alone the fact that the studio desires to do it. Latin Post said that considering how the first film ended, there should be a room for a follow-up. The studio might have even considered the fact that the franchise has a huge cult-following and fans all over social media have clamored for more.

Maxim, on the other hand, have some potential plots for what "Cabin In The Woods" sequel might be. Jared Keller, the publication's Deputy Editor, said that the next one is quite hard to predict, considering how the last film ended. Nonetheless, he guessed that the sequel might be set in Japan, while Goddard will be incorporating some petrifying creatures from the Japanese cinematic lore. And instead of seeing plethora of zombies, viewers might get some undead kabuki bloodlust.

Lionsgate is keeping everything about the possible sequel in the shadows for now. And although everything is still unclear, people are hoping for "The Cabin in the Woods 2" to be sufficiently excellent just like the original film.
