'John Wick 2' Update: Filming to commence this fall without David Leitch; Co-director ditches sequel for 'The Coldest City'

By

It seems that fans and viewers can now relax, as the highly-anticipated "John Wick 2" will reportedly begin filming this fall. However, much like that puppy in the first movie, co-director David Leitch won't be joining as he is set to focus on a new action-thriller, "The Coldest City".

According to Geek Snack, in a press release for a different project, Thunder Road Films announced that the sequel to the action packed "John Wick" movie will commence shooting this fall , despite Lionsgate not providing an official release date. Nevertheless, fanatics are happy to know that Keanu Reeves is returning as the main character in the forthcoming film.

As for the film's co-director, Variety reported that David Leitch has moved out from filming the second installment. The decision was made by Leitch, so he can focus on helming the spy-thriller "The Coldest City," which is set to star Charlize Theron ("Mad Max: Fury Road"). As a result, this leaves Chad Stahelski to direct "John Wick 2" all by himself.

Leitch and Stahelski, both of which hail from the world of stunt choreography, originally planned to co-direct both "The Coldest City" and "John Wick 2." However, due to directing duties, the two ultimately decided to part ways.

"The Coldest City" is written by Kurt Johnstad and based on Anthony Johnston's graphic novel about a spy. As of this writing, there is no word from Leitch to why he abandoned "John Wick 2." However, reports say that there was no acrimony between him and Stahelski regarding the departure and that he will still remain as an executive producer for the sequel

Meanwhile, A.V. Club reported that "The Coldest City" sounds a bit of "John Wick." In the film, Theron will play a super spy who springs into action after an underground M16 officer is killed right after the fall of Berlin - the M16 officer is to something like Wick's dog, while Charlie Theron is to Keanu Reeves.

Despite David Leitch exiting "John Wick 2," the film will most likely be action-packed one way or another. For now, fans can only hope that everything will fall into places, as the movie starts production this fall.
