Many loyal fans of "Outlander" are already aware that Season 2 of the historical drama will be more political and will have a more serious tone. However, it is now revealed that amid the political backdrop, Jamie and Claire's relationship will be put to the test. Can their relationship survive this latest obstacle?
Realty Today reports that "Outlander" Season 2 will be covering Diana Gabaldon's second book, "Dragonfly in Amber". Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) will try to change history and stop the Battle of Culloden from taking place. This season will also see the return of Frank Randall, Claire's husband.
Fans saw very little of Frank (Tobias Menzies) except on the first few episodes of last season. However, spoilers have been coming out that Frank will be making a comeback and his return will certainly mean trouble for Claire and Jamie reports Carter Matt. It was also revealed that while Claire is already expecting her child with Jamie, her daughter, Brianna, will be taking Frank's name and not Jamie's.
Meanwhile, Franchise Herald reports that while Season 1 was spent on getting Jamie and Claire together, the second season will focus on the couple's growth amid all the obstacles they are about to face as husband and wife.
The same article reveals that Claire was not planning on falling in love when she travelled back in time. Caitriona Balfe revealed in an interview that Jamie's being "timeless" was what drew her character to him.
"Even though he is a man of that time there is something timeless about him," Balfe explained. "And there's something quite modern about his willingness to kind of change his viewpoint, or learn, or be open to new ideas."
Author Gabaldon, meanwhile, thinks Jamie treating Claire as his equal was the key to winning her heart. She never felt that she had her own identity while she was with Frank. With Jamie however, Claire felt she had her own destiny but she can fulfill it with Jamie.
The show will return in 2016 with a bigger cast. When "Outlander" Season 2 premieres, fans will see Claire and Jamie more matured as they become parents and in a more serious setting.
