There are a lot of rumors circulating around the Internet about the Android-powered BlackBerry device these past few months. All BlackBerry spectators can no longer wait for the release of this Android smartphone. Thus, the release date and official name of this device, the BlackBerry Priv, has already been confirmed.
According to The Verge, John Chen, the Executive Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of BlackBerry, has reiterated a planned release date for the handset later this year. He confirmed the name of the device, by stating "Today, I am confirming our plans to launch Priv, an Android device named after BlackBerry's heritage and core mission of protecting our customers' privacy. Priv combines the best of BlackBerry security and productivity with the expansive mobile application ecosystem available on the Android platform."
The BlackBerry Priv is described as flagship slider device that will protect customer's privacy. However, it will not discard the BlackBerry 10 operating system, which will be upgraded to 10.3.3 version in March 2016.
Despite the fact that Priv will be powered by Android operating system, it will still have the company's productivity and security integrated. As there were photos revealed online, the soon-to-be-released BlackBerry Priv has a slide-out keyboard with QWERTY keypad. It is expected to feature a curved touch display and 5.4 quad HD display with 1440 by 2560 pixels resolution.
Furthermore, it is anticipated to boast a hexa-core 1.8Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 18-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization, 3GB of RAM, microSD support, and removable battery.
Looking back at the past records of BlackBerry, the company has struggled with regards to its hardware and software. This time, it is paving its way to a new path, which might get them going in the market once again. Blackberry Priv might probably be the answer for the company's comeback.
There might still a lot of changes on the BlackBerry Priv before its official release date. More details and information will also be available any time soon. Nevertheless, the upcoming Android-running BlackBerry smartphone is most likely to be welcomed warmly by both Android and BlackBerry spectators.
