George R.R. Martin is currently working on Winds of Winter, the next book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series and reports have surfaced online indicating a possible 2016 release date. Martin also hinted recently that some of the characters who were presumed dead could in fact be alive still in the upcoming book.
One of the notable things in the series aside from its story is its unpredictability when anybody could die at any point. An example of this is Stannis Baratheon's death as presumed in the fifth season of HBO's series, Game of Thrones, as well as in the book. However, according to a report by IB Times, Martin confirmed that it is not true and Stannis is in fact still alive in the book series.
Also, Jon Snow might not also be the end yet for Jon Snow who was also thought to have died. As reported by Franchise Herald, when asked about Jon Snow's death, Martin had a rather teasing answer. "Oh, you think he's dead, do you?", Martin said. He also later on added saying, "fans should know better than to take anything as gospel."
While release date for Winds of Winter is yet to be revealed, The Independent reports that it could be released some time next year. According to the trade, translator Michał Jakuszewski recently revealed that he was asked by Zysk publishing house to save some time at the end of the year to translate the Winds of Winter indicating that the book is finally close to hitting the shelves.
According to the trade, if the book is scheduled to be sent to international translators at the end of the year, then the book could be up for release early in 2016 which could also be in time for Game of Thrones' sixth season in April.
Winds of Winter is set to be the sixth book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, written by George R.R. Martin. No release date has been officially scheduled for the book yet, but its announcement is expected to be made through Martin's Live Journal site.
