Ellen Page is in talks to join the team that will salvage 90's suspense thriller "Flatliners." "Juno" star, Page is reportedly in talks to take the role of Julia Roberts in the original film.
Sony will work on the remake of Joel Schumacher's original. The reboot will be helmed by Niels Arden Oplev who has directed the film adaptation of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo." The screenplay will be penned by Ben Ripley with David Blackman, while Laurence Mark will be producing.
The original movie released in 1990 starred Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin bacon, William Baldwin, Oliver Platt and Julia Roberts. The story revolves around medical students who are generally curious about life and death and what lies beyond. Nelson (Sutherland) started and persuaded the others to help him end his life and then restore him to life just in time. David (Bacon), Joe (Baldwin), Randy (Platt) and Rachel (Roberts) also tried the ambitious experiment. As they all flatline, they embark on a discovery that the consequences they are about to face is more that what they have bargained for.
The development of the project "Flatliners" remake started in 2013 but this news involving Page is the first one to be released. Page is currently busy promoting the LGBT drama "Freeheld" that she stars in alongside Julianne Moore and Steve Carell. Page also produced the gay rights drama. It is based on a true story Oscar-winning documentary by Cynthia Wade and has been in development for seven years.
It follows the story of gay couple Laurel (Moore) and Stacie (Page), who faces an enormous legal and emotional battle when Laurel tries to pass her pension to her life partner Stacie.
Page came out publicly last year and brought girlfriend Samantha Thomas to the red carpet in Toronto. The 28 year old actress stated: "I've come out. I'm so happy. I'm in a relationship and getting to live my life and express my love freely. I want to be a visible person for the community."
Currently, there is no specific productions start or release date announced for "Flatliners" just yet. Are you looking forward for this reboot? Share your thoughts on a comment below.
