‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ News: Details on Gil Kenan’s live-action adaptation under wraps; Scott Cawthon talks upcoming FNaF RPG

'Five Nights at Freddy's' will be adapted for the big-screen and will be directed by 'Monster House' filmmaker Gil Kenan. As new details for Kenan's film remain scarce, waiting fans turn their attention to an upcoming RPG game intended to be a spin-off of Scott Cawthon's popular point-and-click video games.

It didn't seem too long ago when fans were treated with a surprising announcement from Warner Bros. According to Deadline, Kenan made the deal with the studios and sealed the video game's fate of eventually making it to the big screen. The 38-year old director is all set to helm the feature film adaptation and continues to tease fans of its development through regular posts on his twitter account.

Despite the references and subtle hints of what Kenan has planned, fans are nevertheless kept in the dark about the latest official updates regarding casting, plot details, settings, and the like. It was only recently that the original game's creator Scott Cawthon announced of an upcoming addition to his 'Five Nights at Freddy's' franchise and fans were quick to focus their attention towards it.

Cawthon did the big reveal on Steam Community saying that although there will be no fifth installment of his popular indie game, there will definitely be a spin-off. He said that the upcoming game's running title is 'Five Night at Freddy's World' and its scope is significantly wider than the preceding releases.

He added, "will not be a horror game, but a role playing game where you create a party using the huge selection of characters from the FNaF games, including the classic, withered, toy, phantom, and nightmare versions. I've been working steadily on characters and hope to start on enemy models next week."

The characters referred to would be the various murderous animatronics that are considered the games' main antagonists. Freddy Fazbear, the titular character, is an animatronic bear that roams around a specific area at night and attacks any human found lurking about. His companions include Bonnie the bunny, Chika the chicken Chika, and Foxy the fox.

It remains unclear if Kenan will use the original animatronics featured in the games but he did make admit that he will be using the technology in real life. According to VG247.com, the director posted images on his Instagram account showing various materials to be used in the creation of his animatronics. He said that he preferred these and will use limited special effects, if he would indeed employ any.

'Five Nights At Freddy's' is a planned horror film by Warner Bros. Pictures based on the popular independent point-and-click horror game of the same name. The first in the video game series debuted on August 8, 2014 and quickly became a phenomenal success. The four-part series were praised by critics in the industry saying that it managed to pull off a unique take on the horror survival genre.
