The forthcoming movie "The Ring 3" has reportedly been delayed, as Paramount announced its new release date to sometime in 2016. The third installment of "The Ring" franchise was originally scheduled for a November of this year release. Meanwhile, Director F. Javier Gutierrez reportedly claim that the movie will be set in a 2015 setting.
When Gore Verbinksi's "The Ring" hit theaters back in 2012, a lot were surprised with the phenomenon it had become. The film made a tremendous bank at the box office, as well as invading the pop culture realm. Rumors of the third "Ring" movie has been floating around for quite some time, but the franchise has only announced the sequel last year.
Unfortunately, as reported by Entertainment Weekly, "The Ring 3" had hit a huge snag and the studio, Paramount Pictures, announced that the release will now be pushed back around 2016. The film, which was originally titled "The Rings 3D," stars Johnny Galecki ("The Big Bang Theory"), Matilda Lutz ("Somewhere Beautiful"), and English actor Alex Roe ("Unstrung"). It will most likely attempt to find a third way to employ the same storyline - the cursed video that kills whoever watches it.
Screen Rant reported that there were rumors concerning the origin of the murderous ghost Samara Morgan. Director F. Javier Gutierrez reportedly debunked that belief early this year, as he stated that the project is set in the present day. He also revealed that the film had already entered its production phase. The publication added that how the story will somehow incorporate the video tapes into a 2015 setting remains unanswered.
Cinema Blend, on the other hand, said that "The Ring 3" was initially intended to be a prequel to the first film "The Ring." The latter had already existed in the Japanese canon with the 2000 release of "Ring 0: Birthday."
Despite "The Ring 3" reportedly hitting theaters sometime in 2016, fans shouldn't lose hope. The movie might just possibly get the once-promising franchise back on track.
