Stephen King's The Dark Tower Latest News: Author reveals excitement for film adaptation; TV series in the works?

Much anticipation is circling around the movie adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower, and although it is currently in pre-production stage, tidbits about the film have slowly been released. Here are some of the details revealed as of yet:

According to previous report, Nikolaj Arcel has been confirmed to direct and write the upcoming film, which will focus on the first book, 'The Gunslinger' in Stephen King's popular book series. Aside from Arcel, Akiva Goldsman, Anders Thomas Jensen, and Jeff Pinker are also to be credited for the screenplay.

No actors have been officially attached for the movie, although, Daily Mail reported that 'No Country for Old Men' actor Javier Bardem, and 'Noah' star Russell Crowe are heavily speculated to be the interested in playing the role of Roland Deschain.

The film is currently slated to be released on January 13, 2017, and as reported by iDigital Times, the film will be up against the forthcoming Power Rangers reboot. The film will be released under Sony, and will center on Roland Deschain in his journey to finding the mysterious tower.

King also previously expressed his enthusiasm about the film adaptation, and cited it as a creative approach to his works. "I'm excited that The Dark Tower is finally going to appear on the screen", King said. "Those who have traveled with Roland and his friends in their search for the Dark Tower are going to have their long-held hopes fully realized. This is a brilliant and creative approach to my book", he added.

The book series is comprised of eight books and was released from 1970 to 2012. Aside from the film, a tv version is expected to be released for The Dark Tower. Official details about the film's cast, and plot are expected to be released as production makes progress.
