There's no stopping when it comes to Fox and Ridley Scott's "Alien" franchise, as Neil Blomkamp's "Alien 5" is predicted to be out in 2017 and is rumored to be part of an expanded universe. Also, Scott revealed that the first draft of the forthcoming film's screenplay is completed.
In an interview with the Daily Beast, Scott revealed that the first draft for "Alien 5's" screenplay is already done and that the plan is to have it in theaters by 2017. "We have Neil Blomkamp's Alien, which will be out in 2017," he revealed to the publication. "We just have the first [screenplay] draft in so far but it looks pretty good."
Epic Stream, on the other hand, noted how interesting it would be for 20th Century Fox to present the said films in the same year back-to-back. The move, nonetheless, is like a double-edged sword: one could possibly give fans a clearer perspective as to how the two plot threads connect, while the other could have them confused. Many speculate that "Alien 5" will somehow be part of an expanded universe that is "Alien: Lost Paradise," a sequel to Scott's "Prometheus."
Meanwhile, Bloody Disgusting reported that it remains a mystery as to how Blomkamp's "Alien 5" will be released by 2017. It is worth noting that the director is reportedly still in the drafting phase with no confirmed plans of shooting anytime soon - let alone the fact that Scott's "Alien: Paradise Lost" starts filming in March, enough to make it to theaters by 2017.
The publication added that in order for "Alien 5" to fit in an expanded universe that Ridley Scott seems so eager to establish, Neil Blomkamp has to wait until 2017 to go into production; thus makes 2018 the possible release date instead. Clearly, Blomkamp's "Alien" can't just go into production with Scott shooting his.
As for the fans, it is really hard to tell if 2017 will be the year that "Alien 5" gets its official release. Well, knowing that, at least, the screenplay is complete is a consolation in one way or another.
