Season 2 of "Finding Carter" is already underway but EP Emily Whitesell wants to make sure that the show's rebranding and refocus will not escape viewers. She further reveals that the show will be much more grounded and less melodramatic in its new season.
Whitesell's interview with The Hollywood Reporter reveals that unlike the past season where the story lines were more family centric, the latter part of season 2 will center more on Carter. "The season focuses way more on the kids and their teen life and things that Carter is really up to," says Whitesells.
While the show has been successful in its original format, the decision to reformat has a lot to do with its teenaged audience. Whitesells explains that teens can relate more to characters struggling with the same issues as they do.
Christian Post reports on how the show will change from how it started. "Finding Carter" was about a kidnapped girl returning home and all the drama that came with that. Now, it is about the teens in the show learning to live with what happened and finding their place and autonomy. It's less melodramatic, more grounded and with real life situations taking place.
However, Whitesell says that the family dynamics will still definitely play a role in the plot specifically how the Wilsons will handle the presence of Lori's presence in their lives. Carter's discovery of her brother Ben (Ben Winchell) will be something that she has to face and come to terms with.
A big revelation made by Whitesell is that Carter will be dropping out of school in the new season reports Latin Post. Though still underaged, she will be working as a bartender and will get involved in illegal activities. It is while she is at the bar that she meets Jared (Jackson Rathbone) with whom she will have a very heated relationship. Elizabeth (Cynthia Watros) will obviously not approve of her daughter dropping out and this will put a strain on their relationship.
