Dominic Toretto and the gang are set for more rounds of action in Furious 8 with F. Gary Gray officially on board to direct. Vin Diesel also recently confirmed that the franchise will release three more films before it officially ends.
The 'Straight Outta Compton' director recently confirmed his involvement in the upcoming film through a photo which he posted in his Twitter account of the film's "FF8" initials and its release date. As reported by Comicbook.com, Gray captioned the photo saying, "Cant ask for better partners than Vin [Diesel], Neal [Moritz] & Universal, Excited to bring u the next chapter of the #FastFamily saga."
Even before his confirmation, Gray has been heavily linked to the film. According to E Online, Diesel also posted a photo of him and the director along with a collage of photos from the franchise in his Facebook account, however no caption was written on the post.
As reported by Variety, the film will be the first in the planned trilogy that will be released before the franchise formally ends. Diesel divulged the news through a post in his Facebook account. "Universal has been so good to me and so trusting of the vision ... they have been like family ... I promised the studio I would deliver one last trilogy to end the saga", Diesel wrote.
Plot details are currently under wraps but franchise star Michelle Rodriguez previously revealed what she thinks should be a priority in the next films. "We need a good reason to move on after Paul", Rodriguez said. "And being that this is a global franchise now, it's not just the American baby, it's important that we consider moving on and take it seriously."
Gray is set to direct Furious 8 which will be produced by Diesel and Neal Moritz. As of writing, Diesel along with Dwayne Johnson, and Jason Statham are confirmed to return in the film, while rumors suggest that Paul Walker's brother, Cody could appear in the film as well. More details about the film will be delivered as it moves forward to its April 14, 2017 release date.
