Horizon: Zero Dawn News: Sony sees "Licensing Opportunity" for title; Is the game pressured to having a female lead?

Upcoming role-playing game Horizon: Zero Dawn is one game that as of the moment, still lurks in the shadows, but has slowly ascended to take over the mainstream world of next generation games with a lot on their plate for the interested fan base of the title. Like any good game has, promotion, marketing and dedication are key points in making the piece stand out, and Guerilla Games is surely putting a lot of them in the said title.

As reported by Game Spot, Horizon: Zero Dawn is the upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive title Guerilla Games; the same team that brought about the Killzone series. While the game itself is not yet close to releasing, Sony grasps unto the fact that the particular gaming line can deliver an "incredible licensing opportunity.

SCEE Licensing Manager David Evans spoke on making Horizon: Zero Dawn go across a diverse field-toys, apparel, collectibles and even official wallpapers, as noted by Gaming Bolt. Evans was quoted on an interview, saying, "The epic feel of the game, its breathtaking visuals, strong character development, imaginative combat sequences, and the marketing weight of the PS4 release all combine to make this a hot property for 2016.

Guerrilla Games have created a lush post-apocalyptic world that players simply won't want to leave and licensed merchandise offers consumers a way to extend that extraordinary experience into their everyday lives."

Due to the incomparable amounts of games that actually are comprised of male character leads, titles such as Horizon: Zero Dawn have been critically compared to those that have a relatively strong female protagonist, such as the Tomb Raider franchise. According to Forbes, The setting of the game is placed on a post-apocalyptic atmosphere, with even the existence of robotic animals. The lead character is a woman named Aloy, whose orientation resembles those of fierce female personalities such as Emilia Clarke of Terminator: Genisys and Game of Thrones.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is scheduled to be released within 2016 for the PlayStation 4 only. Other features will be announced in the future.
