The upcoming BlackBerry Priv previously called Venice is rumored to be BlackBerry's best bet to remain in the smartphone business. Leaked photos and information regarding the Priv's specs and accessories have surfaced online.
Digital Trends reported that BlackBerry is betting all on the BlackBerry Priv, the company's next flagship phone with a sliding keyboard, which is set to launch before 2015 ends. BlackBerry CEO John Chen said in the Code/Mobile conference that the company is aiming for 5 million phone sales on 2016 with the Priv. Chen added that if the handset does not sell, BlackBerry might ultimately abandon the phone industry.
BlackBerry plans to make the Priv a success by having Android OS on board instead of its own BB10 mobile platform. TechRadar reported that the BlackBerry Priv will be an Android powerhouse with a Safeguard app that keeps the phone secure.
The report further stated that the BlackBerry Safeguard app will show the phone's security condition. It also allows settings for apps, trusted sites, and screen locks to be edited.
Rumored images of the BlackBerry Priv were leaked online, showing the device's specs and features. A Reddit user took images of the Priv from a BlackBerry executive during a CISO conference, reported International Business Times. The photos showed the sleek design of the Priv and its unique slider keyboard. The Reddit user said this about the Priv: "I'm definitely interested in BlackBerry again."
The BlackBerry Priv is believed to be powered by a Snapdragon 808 and capable of 4K video playback. Rumored specs include an Adreno 418 GPU, an 18MP rear camera, and 3GB RAM. The 5.4" QHD screen display of the Priv features high pixel density and rounded edges.
BlackBerry's partner website CrackBerry revealed that accessories for the Priv are listed in a Canadian distributor's website. The wholesaler known as DirectDial published the Priv accessories with their available colors and retail price.
